About

My name is Angga Khoirul Imam. I am an international student at Texas Tech University from Indonesia, studying Industrial Engineering. I am studying at Tech through a sponsorship program from a social business organization in Indonesia, named Putera Sampoerna Foundation. I came from a simple family background in Indonesia. My father is a worker in a missile company and my mother is an elementary school teacher. The foundation built an international boarding school and gave scholarships to smart Indonesian students that have less financial support. Out of thousands of students, I was selected to be one of the 150 scholars in that program. At the end of my senior year in high school, the foundation offered me to study in the United States through a student loan program. As I proceeded, I went to Texas Tech because it is one of the schools that the foundation has an alliance with. This alliance has enabled me to receive a notable amount of scholarship and tuition discount. I then choose to study engineering because it is something I always want to do. I always wonder how some mechanics work and how people run a factory very efficiently through an engineering system.
My first time coming to Lubbock was awful. It was very hot summer, dry, and a flat plain area. It was so different from the country I was coming from. Lubbock is much drier and hotter. Nevertheless, I enjoy living in Lubbock. After I spent the whole year in Lubbock, I started to get used to it. I found several places to enjoy. After all, Lubbock is not too bad. It’s considered as a big city compared to any other towns surround it. It has almost all the Franchises restaurant and all kind of offices. In addition, Lubbock has a unique weather that I had never met before. I think that if you want to enjoy all four seasons in the same day, you need to come to Lubbock. One day, Lubbock was snowy in the morning, pretty hot in the afternoon, and then sand storm swept away all the fresh air in the evening. What a unique weather.
To sum up, there are some unique facts about me. I came from Indonesia, a 31 hours flight from Lubbock. I have a very good academic standing, with a pretty good time management skill. Talking about sport, the only sport I can do is swimming. However, I am pretty good at drawing and crafting. When I was a child, I created my own study desk, a bookshelf that has a unique shape, and some living room accessories made of recycled papers. I have a dream that one day I can help change people’s life better through working in Google or Disney.
