Hiking at Palo Duro Canyon

One day in a hot Sunday of October 2012, my friends and I went to Palo Duro Canyon for Hiking. Palo Duro Canyon is the second largest canyon in the United States after Grand Canyon. In case you don't know what canyon is, canyon is a deep ravine that was formed because of the water flowed through it. Here what it looked like from the top.

Palo Duro Canyon is located near to Amarillo, TX. We drove from Lubbock from about 2 hours and finally five of us arrived at the canyon.

Many people come to Palo Duro for running and experiencing the challenging adventure of Texas.
One of the running trails in Palo Duro. Each of them is about 6 miles in length!
It was really hot and dry in Palo Duro; however, it really brought a good Texas Flavor. hehe..

Vegetation in Palo Duro

Honestly, I don't know what flower is this, what I know it's pretty..haha

After a long walk, we finally reached one of the peek(s). The problem was we didn't bring enough water. I felt exhausted and my mouth was like a cotton mouth. Hah!. So, suggestion for y'all who want to visit Palo Duro, bring a tank of water (just kidding, 1 gallon of water will be enough).

We were taking a rest near the peak. It felt so good, haha
After we successfully hiked the first peak, we went to a peak called, the "lighthouse" peak. It was formed by high structure of rocks.
The "lighthouse" peak. Well, I guess that is big.
After weighing the risks (haha), we decided to climb up the rocks structure next to the lighthouse peak. There was not a clear path to go up there, however with a good first-time hiking skill, we managed to reach out the top. Frankly, we did it! :-)
We successfully reached the top of the peak. I could not believe it, haha. I was scared to look down but at the same time excited with the accomplishment.
Finally, we returned home safely with some broken bones and dying body (of course we went home safely, just very tired). If you want to come to Palo Duro, be prepared. Bring enough water and wear loose clothes. It's going to be cold. After all, it was a nice hiking experience of Texas.
